ALL ABOUT POSITION OF AXLE COUNTER TRACK DEVICES

Main component of Axle Counter is track devices which detect the movement of train wheels over it.

Now the first question is where should  we fixed this device if we are using it for Block Proving    ( Along with UFSBI or BPAC).You will not get the answer of this question in any book.

One thing is clear, it must be between Advance Starter and Home Signal.First find out  Block Overlap of that station. For Colour light signalling, block overlap is 180m.

Therefore we will measure 180m from Home Signal towards station and mark the position for installation. While marking this position make sure that Axle detectors should be at least 13 m from Advance Starter towards HOME SIGNAL so that Axle counter fail whenever Train crosses ADVANCE STARTER and enter Block Section.

CONCLUSION- Axle detectors must be placed between HOME SIGNAL and opposite ADVANCE SIGNAL at a distance 180 m from HOME SIGNAL and 13m from ADVANCE SIGNAL.

Please remember following things
1) Install these devices on same rail on both stations.
2) Sleepers must be properly packed with ballast where Axle detectors are fixed.
3) Rail must not worn out , where we are fixing Axle detectors.
4) For making holes in rail, please use standard Zig, supplied from CEL company. Please do not use any local Zig otherwise you will be inviting failures.

There are two sets of transmitter and receiver coil. First set is made of 21 khz and second set is made of 23 khz. Please make sure that 21 khz transmitter is facing to 21 khz Receiver and 23 khz transmitter to 23 khz Receiver.

So there are Two transmitter coils and two receiver coils.Cables coming out from these coils will be terminated in the Full location box.Length of each cable is 10m and this cable is called Shielded Cables.

This location box should be installed as close as possible to track devices. This distance should not be more than 10 m.       I will discuss colour coding of these cables in my next post.

Four things you must ensure that while carrying these cables to location box.

1) Both the transmitter cables must be in one HDPE Pipe and both the Receiver coils must be in another HDPE pipe.
2)  Distance between  These pipes must be at least 400 m.
3)  Cables should be straight in HDPE pipe.
4) Extra cables coming from detectors should be made of zig zag shape and it should be kept inside Location Box.

If you follow these things in installation, there are less chances of failure.

This system will detect the wheel with diameter greater than 400 mm and standard wheel flange. Please remember both Diameter of wheel and length of wheel flange must be in exact range, then only Axle detectors will detect wheel.

For push trolley, if the length of wheel flange is less than 22 mm.  Detectors will not detect and your Axle counter will not fail from push trolley.( Which is required)

If your Axle counter if failing from PWAY trolley,  measure length of flange of trolley and advice them to cut flange and make it less than 22 mm. This will reduce your failure.

Rail Deflector- To protect the detectors from any damage from hanging part of train, rail deflector plates are mounted on both sides of Axle detectors.  Distance between Axle detectors and deflector plates should be 30 cm to 40 cm and these plates must be installed between two sleepers.

In my next post I will discuss more about CEL SSDAC.You can post me any of your queries about signalling.I will definitely answer.
